Timothy Richards Models - 10 Dowining Street Bookend

The official residence of the British Prime minister in Westminster, London. Possibly the most photographed and famous front door of any politician in the western world. The building is over 300 years old and contains around 100 rooms. The land on which Downing Street stands was originally bought in 1654 by Sir George Downing; the notorious spy for Oliver Cromwell. He intended that townhouses on this street be built “for persons of good quality to inhabit…”. In 1732, three buildings were offered to Sir Robert Walpole who commissioned William Kent to join the them together to become No.10 Downing Street.
